About Adam Miller | Founder of London Pest Control Co.
I’m Adam Miller, founder and owner of London Pest Control Co. We’re a BPCA-accredited pest control company covering Greater London and the Home Counties.
I’ve spent over twenty years in the UK pest control industry and founded London Pest Control Co. in 2018. I set the company up to fill what I saw as a gap in the London market between the national pest control chains and the small independent operators that dominate the local listings. The middle ground I wanted was a properly accredited operator that still ran like a local business: same-day response, documented work, and a team you actually get to know.
Background
I came into pest control in my early twenties, after a couple of years working in environmental services for a London local authority. That role gave me a working understanding of how pest issues intersect with public health and housing, and got me interested in the technical side of the trade.
I moved into the private sector in the mid-2000s and spent the next decade with a series of pest control operators in London and the south-east. The work covered the full range: domestic call-outs, commercial rodent contracts, bed bug heat treatments, and bird control programmes on heritage buildings where the requirements are tighter than standard work. Bed bug work in particular grew through the 2010s as London populations climbed, and it remains one of my specialisms today.
I hold RSPH Level 3 in pest management alongside the standard NVQ qualifications, and I’m trained on the CRRU rodenticide stewardship framework that all UK pest controllers now operate under.
Why I founded London Pest Control Co.
By the mid-2010s I’d spent enough time inside the industry to see the same pattern recurring on commercial jobs. Managing agents and food businesses were either paying premium rates to a national chain for service that often felt impersonal, or hiring a small independent operator that was cheaper but couldn’t produce the documentation a serious commercial client needs. Domestic customers had a similar problem on a smaller scale.
The plan I worked through during 2017 was to build a company that operated to the BPCA’s codes of best practice from day one, but kept the response times and continuity of staff that customers usually only get from a small independent. That meant building accreditation, recruitment, and documentation into our operating template before the first job was booked, rather than retrofitting them later as we grew.
We opened in 2018 with two technicians, a single van, and a small office in west London. I ran the first jobs personally and recruited the early team off the back of work I’d done at previous operators.
How I run the company today
I still do technical work occasionally. Usually that means difficult bed bug cases and bird control surveys on listed buildings, where my experience is most directly useful. I prefer to keep my hand in rather than turn into a purely administrative founder.
Most of my week, though, is taken up with the parts of the business that don’t fit a technician’s day. I run our recruitment and training programme personally, because the BPCA standards we run to mean we can’t simply hire someone with general handyman experience and put them in a van. New technicians shadow experienced ones for several weeks before they take on jobs alone, and I sign off on every new hire.
I also take the lead on commercial contract negotiations, particularly with managing agents and multi-site clients. The documentation, COSHH compliance, and out-of-hours scheduling that commercial work depends on need to be set up correctly from the first contract review, and that’s easier when the founder is involved directly.
The rest of my time goes on accreditation renewals, supplier management, customer escalations, and the operational reviews we run every quarter. I’m based at our west London office during weekdays.
